A Martial Arts Summer Camp That Your Child Won't Stop Talking About!

This immersive summer camp introduces children to the foundations of martial arts through the practice of Aikido. Each day combines focused training, practical self-defense skills, and age-appropriate conditioning in a safe, supportive environment.

Guided by experienced instructors, campers learn how to move with balance, awareness, and intention. Beyond physical techniques, they develop confidence, discipline, respect, and the ability to stay calm under pressure, skills that extend well beyond the mat.

We recognize that every child learns differently. Some learn best through movement, others through observation, listening, or step-by-step repetition. Our instructors adapt their teaching to meet each child where they are, creating an inclusive environment that supports a wide range of learning styles and needs. This thoughtful approach helps every camper feel understood, capable, and successful.

Aikido is taught in a non-competitive setting where children learn to work together rather than compete. Partner practice encourages cooperation, empathy, and communication, while helping students develop focus, emotional awareness, and respect for others. Campers learn how to manage frustration, stay engaged, and approach challenges with confidence.

Whether your child is new to martial arts or already training, this program offers clear structure and meaningful progression. First-time students will earn their first Aikido belt at the completion of the camp, while current members continue to deepen their skills and understanding.

This is more than a summer activity.
It’s an experience that builds character, confidence, and a lasting love for martial arts.

Our Team

Our team is made up of dedicated educators and martial arts instructors who care deeply about children. We combine experience, patience, and traditional training to create a safe, supportive environment where kids can grow in confidence, focus, and character.

Daniel Brasse

Chief Instructor

Jean-Daniel “Daniel” Brasse is a full-time martial arts teacher and the founder of Aikido By the Bay. With over four decades of martial arts experience, Daniel has dedicated his career to teaching Aikido as a path for long-term growth, with a particular focus on children.

Daniel developed a successful Aikido kids program built on consistency, structure, and care. Many students began training at a very young age and remained in the program for years, developing focus, confidence, discipline, and respect along the way. Several went on to enter college as black belts, reflecting not only technical skill but long-term commitment and strong character.

His teaching is rooted in traditional Iwama-style Aikido, emphasizing strong fundamentals, weapons integration, and embodied learning. Drawing from a professional background in law enforcement, security, and the corporate world, Daniel brings a calm, practical approach to safety, leadership, and emotional regulation in his classes.

Daniel also founded and taught an Aikido program at the Swiss International School in Basel, Switzerland, integrating martial arts into an international academic environment. He is committed to helping children develop lifelong skills that support them both on and off the mat.

Glafira Valencia

Senior Instructor

Glafira Valencia brings a rare and powerful blend of early childhood education and traditional martial arts to our Kids Summer Camp.

After a long and dedicated career as a preschool teacher, Glafira recently retired from the classroom, having spent decades nurturing young children through their most formative years. Her deep understanding of child development, emotional regulation, and learning through play makes her an exceptional guide for children in a camp environment.

Alongside her teaching career, Glafira is a 2nd-degree black belt in Aikido and a regular instructor in our children’s classes at the dojo. She has extensive experience teaching kids of all ages, helping them build coordination, confidence, respect, and focus in a way that is both structured and joyful. Her calm presence and patient approach allow children to feel safe, supported, and encouraged to do their best.

Parents consistently appreciate Glafira's ability to connect with kids, keep them engaged, and create an environment where learning, fun, and personal growth go hand in hand.

We are incredibly grateful to have Glafira as part of our summer camp team and know that students will benefit greatly from her experience, warmth, and dedication.
