Bill Witt Shihan, 8th Dan

Witt Sensei began his Aikido journey in 1967 at the Aikikai Hombu Dojo, where he had the honor of training under the Founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba, Ōsensei.

In 1969, following Ōsensei’s passing, he became the first foreigner to visit Saito Sensei in Iwama. His pioneering visit paved the way for future uchideshi, making his contribution to that lineage both significant and foundational.

Hans Goto Shihan, 7th Dan

Goto Sensei began Aikido in 1969 at UC Santa Cruz under Bob Frager Sensei.

He was the first long-term foreigner uchideshi at the Iwama dojo, where he worked closely with Saito Sensei, contributing significantly to the development of the uchideshi system. His involvement was instrumental in formalizing the rules for uchideshi, leaving a lasting impact on the lineage and training practices in Iwama.

Bernice Tom Shihan, 7th Dan

Tom Sensei began her Aikido journey in 1974 in Oakland, California, and trained extensively with Morihiro Saito Sensei in Iwama, Japan.

In 1989, she was authorized to administer weapons certification exams on Saito Sensei's behalf, solidifying her role as a key figure in the Iwama tradition. She now teaches at her dojo in San Diego, continuing to preserve and share this legacy worldwide.
